How to Use AI in Recruitment

2024-06-19 16:28 Research: IT and HR analytics

The sheer numbers and stats speak volumes about AI's bright future. Grand View Research predicts the global AI market will skyrocket to a whopping $1811 billion by 2030, boasting an impressive annual growth rate of 37.3%!

Do businesses harness AI's potential to improve their processes? Yes, but only to a limited extent at the moment. According to a recent study by Gartner, just 39% of surveyed companies are using AI solutions.

What's causing the delay in adopting AI-based tools? Mainly the lack of understanding about the technologies, their potential, and the costs and methods involved in implementing them.

In this article, we focus on an area of our expertise: recruitment. Below, we've compiled a list of effective AI tools for recruiters along with recommendations on how to use them. Happy to share our experience!

Benefits of AI Technologies for Businesses

AI is the key to propelling your business to the next growth level. But what exactly fuels this opportunity for growth? Let's break it down with numbers and plain old logic:

70% time effectiveness

Accenture, a consulting firm specializing in enhancing businesses through AI technology, has unveiled a report demonstrating time savings of up to 70% through the use of AI!

3-fold return on financial investments

The cost of AI implementation varies depending on different factors (there are both paid and free solutions, especially for recruiters). According to Accenture, investments in AI can yield three times their initial cost!

Increased quality at all levels

Artificial Intelligence improves a wide variety of processes. Which ones? We'll zoom in on how AI can directly affect recruiters' tasks.

AI in Recruitment: Tools and Recommendations

A recruiter can perform a wide range of tasks — screening resumes, writing job descriptions, interacting with candidates, etc. We use AI in the following processes:

I. Creating job descriptions

We've evaluated these three tools for writing job descriptions for our ATS called Huly and our website. They pretty much work the same way. We suggest giving all of them a try and picking the one that better suits your needs.

How do they work? You create a prompt in which you specify a task and send it to the AI. After a couple of moments, you get the result, which you copy and edit as you wish.

How to write a prompt? AIs work best in a role-playing format. You need to make it think it's a recruiter and give it some background about the company's industry. To avoid an overly generalized result, add details about the vacancy. And don't expect the AI to produce a perfect text the first time. Ask for adjustments and also edit on your own.
What do we prefer? ChatGPT-4. It's an upgraded version with advanced features. It operates faster and delivers higher-quality texts. The price starts from $20 per month.
I've tested out different versions of ChatGPT, and the fourth one is the winner! It's my go-to for writing job postings and articles. The trick is to nail down the prompt so that the AI consistently delivers solid results with minimal edits needed.

II. Creating posts and pictures

AIs are really good at creating content for social media, like job posts. But you can't just leave it all up to them. They make things easier, but you still need a human eye to make it better.
I mainly use ChatGPT, but I experiment with other tools too. Simply asking it to write a post won't give great results — it’s too generic and lacks a human touch. It's better to provide a structure and work on the level of headings, phrases, sentences, and paragraphs.

You can also use AI to create images for posts, ranging from pictures made from scratch to original backgrounds suitable for visual content (free of charge and without copyright violations).

III. Communicating with candidates

Tools:

Our personalized chatbot
Our partners, developers of the Huly platform (a tool for recruiting, HR, and management), created a chatbot for us to interact with candidates.

How does it work? The bot syncs up with the ATS system. We upload candidate info from our database, enabling it to reach out to them via social networks and initiate conversations about relevant job openings. It answers questions, encourages calls with recruiters, and gives feedback on conversations in Huly.
In terms of results, this tool really speeds up candidate communication. For example, instead of spending a whole day writing to 50 candidates, now it only takes 1-2 hours.

At the same time, the bot can work in any language and makes plausible delays in responses (mimicking a human).

What other chatbots are there? There are many solutions on the market. Here are some of them: Paradox's Olivia, MeBeBot, Recruitbot, etc.

Just the Beginning: What Else Can AIs Do?

We've outlined some AI tools we use in practice. But that's just the beginning! AI could greatly enhance many other processes. Here are a couple of things we're currently testing out and working into our routine:
  • Resume screening (filtering candidates based on specific criteria, comparing them with the job listing through keywords)
  • Advanced sourcing (locating candidates on social media and other platforms)
  • Marketing analytics (ChatGPT integration with Google Sheets, find out more here)

Summing Up: Final Tip

AI is a game-changer in recruitment! Just try it out for one task, and you'll see how much it eases your workload. Once you do, you'll be hooked and want more!
